To get the best out of the scan, it is best to be run between 24 and 32 weeks.  For those parents wanting to leave the sex of their baby a mystery, the level of detail on this type of scan makes things difficult.  You should mention your wishes before the scan begins so it doesn’t spoil your surprise!

Once your scan is complete and the necessary study and processing is done by your Sonographer or Radiographer then it is often possible to take a copy of it away with you on DVD.  Then you can watch the experience all over again from the comfort of your own home.  This may be a useful tool in helping your wider family come to terms with the impending arrival.
